The Staphylinus olens or Devil's Coach Horse is a rove beetle inhabitant to Europe in the family Staphylinidae.

Appearance

The Devil has glands in its abdomen that release an awful odor for defence. The coating is black and resemble large queen ants. If looked at closely, one can see its hairs.

Habitat

When disturbed or threatened, it will curve its abdomen like a scorpion. The Devil is predacious and may eat other insects.
